Audition (1999)

10 star rating

This movie… I watched it for the first time years ago and don’t remember it making much of an impact.  I rewatched it yesterday and… wow.  The plot is brilliant, from beginning to end.  It starts off with almost the feel of a drama.  A single father decides to hold auditions in search of a wife, but the story keeps unfolding right up to the climactic ending.  The acting and direction are superb.  Surprising for Japanese horror, the gore is not overdone.  The torture is perfection, but the gore is not overpowering.

Do it!

Ginger Snaps (2000)

7 star rating

Taking the horror element out of the film, this movie is really enjoyable.  It’s fun to watch.  As far as being ‘scary’, it falls really low on the terror scale.  The acting was decent.  The effects, though limited, were amazing.  The plot is engaging throughout.

While this will not be the most terrifying movie you’ll watch, it is highly entertaining.
